Proposed reopening of Pharmacy on Dalkeith Road

Postby Yaseen on Fri Nov 06, 2009 8:12 pm

Hello, my name is Mr Yaseen Yousaf. I am a community pharmacist and I have proposed to reopen the Pharmacy on 158 Dalkeith Road, EH16 5DX. I believe that since this pharmacy unexpectedly closed, it has left a void in the provision of pharmaceutical services in the area. The pharmacy was not relocated and patients have been expected to relocate to other pharmacies. I think this is highly unfair and unacceptable for the patients and residents. I have Dalkeith Road Medical Practice supporting my application. The consensus amongst doctors and staff is that the pharmacy should be reopened. I wonder what the thoughts of members at the Grange/Prestonfield Community Council are?

I aim to provide an excellent level of service to the patients, customers and residents in the area, in line with delivering the key elements of the Scottish Pharmacy contract. There will be a private consultation room in the pharmacy, allowing for private consultations with patients. I aim to offer a full range of services which will include: free prescription collection and delivery service, minor ailment scheme (so patients can be prescribed medication for minor ailments, from within the pharmacy and dispensed there and then, without having to see the GP), smoking cessation service, diagnostic screening (blood pressure monitoring, diabetes testing, heart and cholesterol testing, allergy testing), domiciliary oxygen service, emergency hormonal contraception, travel and malaria advice, dossette box service, appliances/colostomy/ostomy supplies, weight monitoring, as well as stocking a wide range of over the counter medicines, vitamins, homeopathic/herbal remedies,
specialist skincare products and toiletries. The pharmacy will also be fully disability discrimination compliant.

I also aim to liaise very closely with all the other healthcare professionals in the area, in order to provide an outstanding level of service to the community. I also think it is imperative to listen to the needs and requirements of the community, so that I can achieve this level of service and implement services that are necessary and desirable.

Please let me know any thoughts and opinions you may have.

Thank you.
Yaseen

I think that this would benefit the community highly as there is quite a high concentration of elderly people in the area and having an easily accessible pharmacy close by would be very useful to them, I'm sure...
The pharmacy is also situated in a place where there is a cluster of different shops providing other services such as the hairdressers and the newsagents. The pharmacy provides another vital service and would help to regenerate these local services.
