Updated: May 20

18 September Meeting: (Cllr. Steve Burgess in attendance)

Newington Cemetery Wall: The long-standing repair work is close to completion, only for two traffic incidents to cause further damage to the wall.

Friends of Newington Cemetery: This volunteer group continues its much-valued care and maintenance work. A number of new planters are now in place, with Inch Nursery kindly providing soil and plants at cost.

Cameron Toll Gas Pipeline Works: Completion is targeted for early October but further complications have emerged from the discovery of more water pipe leakages.

Prestonfield Road and Priestfield Road Improvements: The Council is consulting on proposals to resurface both roads, improve the design of footway paths, introduce street trees, make safety improvements to the rear entrance to Prestonfield Primary and generally to enhance the attractiveness of the streets. The consultation closes on 9 October. You can access it at: https://consultationhub.edinburgh.gov.uk/sfc/prestonfield-priestfield/ .

Dalkeith Road Bin Hubs: (See below) This is still a live issue and further conversation with Council Officers is scheduled for mid-October.

Prestonfield Bowling Green: Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust resubmitted proposals to the Council in August to reshape the site into a community growing garden area. The plans have run into budget and funding issues. A new assessment should be completed in December. The question of garden maintenance once in place remains open. Community Council Elections: (See below) Elections are now scheduled for February 2025. Think about helping GPCC by becoming community councillor. Contact the Secretary for more details. From the June 2024 Meeting:

Dalkeith Road Bin Hubs: Ongoing local resident concern as hub sites are moved off Dalkeith Road into side streets and as real issues become apparent on inadequate bin capacities, missed collections and the seeming unwillingness of the Council to take a fresh practical take on what has been a desktop-planned exercise. Resident comments and queries (before any ‘complaints’) seem to get nowhere. Contact Cllr. Flannery at Cllr.Pauline.Flannery@edinburgh.gov.uk . Provide her with pictures of overflows.
