21 May 2025 Meeting: Cllr. Tim Pogson in attendance.

Cllr. Pogson’s Report

Transport: The Council’s Strategic Parking Review moves to consider parking restrictions across part of the GPCC boundary area; Zone B1 Parking permit address search – The City of Edinburgh Council

Prior ‘consultation’ will not take place. However, the plans must be publicised (e.g. local press) under a Traffic Regulation Order, with the opportunity given for public comment. You will need to be on the lookout (press, publicity) for these proposals as they emerge in early June.

Communal Bin Hubs: A ‘priority list’ of 184 existing bin hub sites has opened for review. If you want to add ‘your’ sites to that list (e.g. Dalkeith Road pavement bins?), email the location detail to mailto:waste@edinburgh.gov.uk before close Monday 2 June.

Cameron Toll Hotel at Liberton Road: Long-standing application recommended by Planning Department for approval by Councillors.

33-41 Ratcliffe Terrace: Purpose-Built Student Accommodation: Proposal submitted for 115-bed facility within a 3-block ‘courtyard’ development, alongside a commercial unit

Prestonfield Road / Priestfield Road Design Improvements: The design project includes roadway and footway re-design, urban drainage improvement and tree planting. The Q4 2024 Council consultation response is still being considered. We await further detail and have asked for a timescale. Revised design proposals will be submitted for further consultation.

Other Items

Newington Cemetery: Update awaited on Dalkeith Road wall repair works and on the Cameron Toll wall and fence repair. Completion expected in the coming weeks. Planter installation programme and related garden work continues. Friends of Newington Cemetery hosted a 28 April event (12.00) to commemorate renowned Penicuik engineer James Finlayson, 1830s industrial pioneer in Finland. Programme led by former GPCC Planning Lead, Tony Harris, and his wife, joined by the Finnish Consul.

Student Accommodation: Concerns expressed relate principally to the high and rising density of student accommodation in the area, at the expense of ‘other’ options for the provision of accommodation for Edinburgh residents.

Community Notice Board: Now in position at the bus-stop by the shops on the west side of Dalkeith Road. If your community group has material you would like to post here, contact us.

Date of next meeting = 18 June 25 AGM.
