Introduction

Your Ward Councillors and the City Council want to hear what you think about a host of issues; They need to hear what you think. Otherwise, your opinions on city life are just background noise. The Council’s Consultation and Engagement Hub is a rolling directory of online surveys. Access it here: https://consultationhub.edinburgh.gov.uk/ .

Below we list a selection of the current survey activities on the Hub. Take a look and take part. Then contact us at mailto:secretary@grangeprestonfieldcc.org.uk to let us know your view on what was asked. (Keep it to a maximum of five lines of text though, please.)

Protected Characteristics The Equality Act 2010 protects everyone. You cannot discriminate or harass someone based on a protected characteristic. We all have more than one of the nine protected characteristics. Our Equality Outcomes We want everyone to feel welcome in Edinburgh, whether they live, work, study, or visit here. Anyone who sells goods or services on the street or operates a market with more than one seller in Edinburgh is required to be licensed. Edinburgh Integration Joint Board (IJB) has a new plan. The plan is for three years, from April 2025 to March 2028. The IJB wants to give people the best health and care services. They also want to make sure that they do not spend more money than they have. They want Edinburgh to be safer, healthier, and fairer. Many people and groups in Edinburgh helped make this plan. The IJB wants to know if you agree with their plan. They want to know if you think their goals are the right ones.

The Licensing Board is consulting on the terms of its Gambling Policy Statement. The policy statement forms the basis upon which the Board considers applications for premises licences for venues such as betting shops, bingo halls, casinos, gaming machines in entertainment centres and pubs, and a range of other matters. The policy does not cover matters which are the responsibility of the Gambling Commission and in addition the Licensing Board has a separate policy on alcohol.

Proposed Controlled Parking Zone B1

Although priority parking restrictions are currently in place Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 11:30 in the B1 PPA, feedback indicates that parking issues often occur out with the current restricted period. In view of this, the Council is proposing the introduction of two new CPZs, which would operate from Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm. One of these will cover the present zone B1. More information and access to the consultation response through the above link.

Review of polling districts and polling places 2025

We are currently reviewing the provision of polling districts and polling places serving elections within Edinburgh. Our last review was undertaken in 2020. Based on feedback, an outcome of that review was to reduce the use of schools as polling places. A report to Council on 10 February 2022 made further changes which ended the use of schools as polling places. We want to make it easy for you to vote and to remove or reduce any physical barriers you might face.

The Edinburgh Partnership is conducting a review of how it supports and works with third sector organisations in Edinburgh. This includes how we deliver grant funding and commissioning, how we ask third sector organisations to monitor and report on what they do, and what in-kind support we provide. We recognise that a well-functioning third sector is essential for Edinburgh, and that third sector organisations are our partners in delivery of a vast range of services to all.

In 2000, Edinburgh was the first local authority to introduce an Affordable Housing Policy (AHP) in Scotland. The Council’s AHP sets the parameters for a percentage of land or homes to be affordable, supporting and enabling delivery of new affordable housing in the city. Currently Edinburgh has higher housing costs than the Scottish average across all tenure types. Rents and property prices in Edinburgh are also higher than average, while the percentage of social rented homes in Edinburgh is lower than average.

Please share your views on Community Payback Orders (CPO). These are handed down by the Court to people to pay for their crimes as an alternative to a prison sentence. In particular, we would like to know what you think about the unpaid work part of a CPO, which replaced community service in 2011. This is when an individual who has committed an offence does unpaid work within the community.

The City of Edinburgh Council is developing its approach to Community Wealth Building (CWB). It does so by supporting the creation and retention of wealth in local economies, and by giving local people more control over that wealth. The Council is currently developing a plan to set out its priority Community Wealth Building actions.
